Your voyage begins in the town of Kotor, the namesake for Europe’s southernmost fjord. Your friendly skipper will begin the tour by introducing you to the wondrous islet of Our Lady of the Rocks. Considered the crown jewel of the Bay of Kotor, this island is the only man-made one in the Bay. Long ago, two fishermen found an icon of St. Mary chiseled on the side of a rock. Local sailors and fishermen decided to throw rocks where the Lady had been found thereafter to honour the memory of St. Mary. The rocks soon became an island, where Our Lady of the Rocks Church, first established in the 15th century, still stands today.
Enjoy the extravagant beauty of the Bay of Kotor as you travel to your next stop, a series of abandoned submarine tunnels. Active throughout the Yugoslavian Socialist period, the tunnels have since fallen out of use, though they remain open to the public. You will have the rare opportunity to explore this piece of history up close, including a chance to swim inside.
From there, you will journey to the “mouth” of the Bay, where Mamula Island stands. Although it used to be an Austro-Hungarian prison, it has since transformed into a beautiful island resort. Enjoy the panoramic view of Mamula Island, a uniquely entertaining and historical stop.
You will find we have saved the best for last, though, as you will end your tour in the Blue Cave. So named for its shimmering waters, the first sight of Blue Cave will leave you breathless, as if you had been transported to another world.
